Joan Cornwell has served on the board for twelve years, since 2008, and is currently the Secretary of the Board. She began her service at the request of Win Wallin as the organization transitioned from the Wallin Foundation to independent status as Wallin Education Partners. Joan attended Marquette University and graduated from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology and Sociology. She worked for the Ramsey County Welfare Dept. in St. Paul as a social worker. Later, she worked for Catholic Charities as a Coordinator of Volunteers at St. Joseph’s Home for Children in Minneapolis.
She was on the founding Donor Advisor Committee at the Minneapolis. Foundation. She served on the Advisory Council for the Foster Grandparent/Senior Companion of Minnesota. Joan has been involved with a number of community nonprofits, including Urban Ventures, Hospitality House, Project for Pride in Living, YouthLink and Centro Guadalupano.
For the last 9 years, Joan has mentored two young ladies. She has volunteered as an ESL tutor for 10 years to a young woman and is preparing now to teach citizenship to her and her family.
