Doua Yang was born and raised in Saint Paul and currently resides in Blaine, MN. In May 2013, Doua celebrated being the first woman in her family of sixteen to obtain a bachelor's degree. She is a proud first-generation college graduate from the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, where she studied Family Social Science and Social Justice.
Doua is also the first in her family to pursue a Master’s degree. “It sometimes feels like a burden to be the first, but what it truly is, is a blessing to be able to pave the way to rebuild an easier path for my younger siblings and future generations.” In her previous professional roles, Doua advised first-generation low income students through their educational journeys from middle school to college admission and beyond at College Possible, Breakthrough Twin Cities, and TRIO Upward Bound. She believes it takes a village to raise a child, and building an intentional community for students and sense of belonging is crucial for their academic and social development and success.
In her spare time, Doua enjoys trying new air fryer recipes, collecting crystals for meditation and spiritual healing, and spending time with her two goldendoodle pups, Zion and Zoe.
