Demaya is a Certified Financial Educator and experienced College Access Site Director, Academic Advisor, and College Career Counselor, who believes it imperative that all undergraduate students are equipped with the knowledge, skills and experiences to be successful. Additionally, as a first generation student, Minneapolis native and Wallin Scholar Alumni, she not only brings an extensive amount of experience, but direct connections to our Wallin scholars.
Alongside her commitment to College Access Demaya is a champion for Debt Free Degrees and Financial literacy. Most recently, she presented for the Minnesota School Counselors Association on the topic: "Choosing a Debt Free Degree: Helping First generation students make an informed college decision.” Her ambition derives from her educational and professional experience studying interventions to bridge the gap from Secondary to Post-Secondary Education for first students. Through her work, she has become completely aware of disadvantages which under-resourced students encounter, limiting their access to college. Thus, she has dedicated her career to making college a reality for all students.
Demaya graduated from St. Olaf College with her Bachelor of Arts in English (Um Yah Yah!) and Hamline University where she received her Master of Arts degree in Education. Outside of work Demaya enjoys podcasts, HGTV, family time, reading and coffee!
